Chelsea Style In the middle of the 19th century a style of ceramics became very popular, especially in the United States, called Chelsea style or Grandmother's pattern. These were white, heavily glazed, relief-molded pieces with the relief colored a light lavender. They are not to be confused with the signature color, lavender and white, jugs made by Samuel Alcock about the same time. The designs on these Victorian pieces were primarily Hunt Scenes, Putti designs or Classical Figure moldings. The vessels were table wares, especially jugs or pitchers. |
