Commemoratives

Each time a member of the immediate Royal Family of Great Britain, gets married, has a coronation, has a birthday, takes a trip or dies, the potteries of England and other countries produce pieces of ceramics marking the occasion. These are called commemoratives. These pieces  recognize in a tangible way what has happened. They are great fun to collect, as you can date the piece exactly. Often the antique pottery is also marked with the potter's name or a clue to the maker. Commemoratives are made in everything from mugs costing a few dollars to lovely, quality, pieces from the finest potters. They date from modern times, back through the reigns of King George 1st through Victorian times (Georgian and Victorian periods) and earlier. Other commemorative fields, illustrate important occasions and non-royal important people.
