Molded (Moulded) Wares

As discussed in in the category relief moulded jugs (relief-molded jugs), the middle of the 19th century saw the production of enormous quantities of relief-molded wares. Relief-moulding became a popular design for all types of table wares and decorative items including plates, cups and saucers, serving pieces, candlesticks, jug and basins. These molded wares were made by almost every pottery in Georgian and Victorian England. They were used daily, washed often, and did not have a chance to collect dirt in the crevices of the molded design. Molded pottery were not a problem to their owners. When they went on shelves at the end of the century, they started to collect dirt and so were eventually relegated to the attic. They are coming out of the attics, and today offer a fascinating field for antiquing.
