Georgian New Hall In 1771 several men including John Turner, Anthony Keeling, Jacob Warburton, Samuel Hollins, Charles Bagnall, Joshua Heath, William Clews and John Hollins bought the patent for making hard paste porcelain from Robert Champion of Bristol. This was a real innovation in the history of English ceramics. At first they imitated the Chinese Export wares with very elaborate groups of mandarin figures in exotic landscapes. In 1791 they produced much simpler patterns of flowers in Chinese, famille rose colors. They assigned pattern numbers to the patterns, and the highest pattern number known for this hard paste period was the number 1046. About 1812 the company started making bone china. English, New Hall potted until 1831, at which time they unsuccessfully put their pottery on the auction block. New Hall closed in 1835. |
