Plates

By the Victorian age, the English potters were very proficient in making porcelain and bone china. Hundreds of potteries sprang up, both large and small, making every conceivable pattern of table wares in porcelain, bone china, stoneware, parian and earthenware. Every dinner set had several sizes of plates ranging from the 5-6" saucer to the 12" service plates which was meant to be placed under the dinner plate. Large dinner sets could have 50 to 60 or more plates. These sets were magnificent, and the porcelain ones graced the tables of the wealthy and powerful. Today collectors are virtually unlimited when choosing antique patterns and designs from the Victorian period.
